Hurricanes Don't Worry: Poems from Men in the Harris County Jail

I was with my family
on the 3rd floor
watching the rain pour.
I was worried about
my family not present,
my car,
my girlfriend.

My girlfriend called – told me
she had to evacuate her home
and walk through the floodwater
to reach safety.

I had a 2010 Camaro at the time
and I was worried about it
getting swept away.
