Hurricanes Don't Worry: Poems from Men in the Harris County Jail

Harvey in Prison

James A. Moran

For years I have wished
This building away…
Your walls stand firm
And your fences they stay…
In this mud and muck
I continue to pray…
That somehow this rain
Will wash you away…

At these sandbags I work
With no sunshine in sight…
Defying this storm
We continue to fight…
All through the day
And into the night…
This struggle I’m in
It doesn’t seem right…
But we’ll continue to work
Til God sends us light…
