Hurricanes Don't Worry: Poems from Men in the Harris County Jail

Harvey Overtakes

Xavier Williams

It’s raining cats and dogs
The water is rising
To new levels
The bayou is overflowing
Houses are flooding
The wind is blowing
So hard trees and
Car porches are blowing
Families are losing homes
Kids floating in ice boxes
Just so they won’t drown
Cars and freeways are under water
People floating dead
Moms and dads looking
For their loved ones
Nowhere to be found
Everybody losing
Someone or something
Important or valuable.
